Philadelphia “Green City” Program
The “Green City” program emphasizes the use of sustainable locally based greening projects, such as tree plantings, lot conversions to green space, and community gardens. These projects, favored by community groups, can be designed to reduce stormwater impacts to our streams by using rainwater as a resource. They are more aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly, and less costly than the traditional, neighborhood disruptive practice of constructing new underground infrastructure to handle stormwater. The following programs reduce costs while supporting a positive environmental aesthetic to even our most urbanized communities.
